Should body shops be negotiating claims with the insurance company. In the majority of states the answer is no. Body shops need to follow the guidelines set by the insurance companies and supplement additional damage found based on their guidelines. But, legally body shops should not be negotiating claims. Body Shops do have a moral and legal obligation to repair the vehicle correctly. That does not mean you should lose money. You should charge for the work you do not adjust your estimate lower to match the insurance companies. Auto body shops are the only business that does that.
